Obituary of Sarah Jane Price

Sarah Jane Price, "Jane", of Winston-Salem, died peacefully at Forsythe Medical Center on Friday, January 12, 2018. Born in Charlotte, the daughter of the late James Conrad Price and Elizabeth Price (Brown), and younger sister to the late Nancy Elizabeth (Betty) Price; she grew up in the then close-knot farming community of Steele Creek, in Charlotte. She excelled in academics graduating valedictorian from West Mecklenburg in 1958 and continued her education within the North Carolina college system. Her early experiences in her family's popular greenhouse business and her involvement with her father's antique collecting created passions that would grow and continue until her death. She started working for Wachovia Bank in Charlotte and retired from it in Winston-Salem as Vice President of Institutional Trust and Retirement Services; a well-deserved title but not one given often to women at that time. Downplaying the honor, she would kiddingly say, "Banks give us titles instead of money". She also managed many major corporations' retirement plans. She made life-long friends at the bank and most importantly she loved and was loved by her customers and co-workers. Jane enjoyed and embraced life fully. Family, friends, flowers, herbs, travels, antiques, fine art, Snowball, shopping, and haute couture: all were passions of Jane. Early travels took her to Germany working for the United States Army. This enabled her to travel extensively throughout Europe. But when all was said and done, her favorite place of all was St. Simons Island, Georgia. You had only to pass by Jane's house to see her skill and love for gardening. In the spring, her colorful and gorgeous flower beds, hanging baskets, and window boxes were simply delightful; The "Lib Price" rosemary bush was a legacy of her mother's. Jane's home was filled with collectibles, antiques, and fine art. Many were very sentimental and others were bought with a discerning eye, learned on her father's knee. She loved shopping, had a keen eye for fashion, and was impeccably dressed. Many hours at Monkee's of the Village at Reynolda Village, Winston-Salem, provided her with haute couture and faithful close friends for life. She is survived and will be missed by younger cousins who thought of her as the epitome of a "Southern Belle", a classy lady and having "te most wonderful southern drawl". Jane loved her friends and will be missed and remembered by them. She had a very special relationship and place in her heart for godson, Ed Manning and his wife, Tracy, and their son, Daulton. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Jeff Pinkston officiating. Interment in the Steele Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery will follow immediately. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Steele Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery fund.
